Proper nutrition helps keep energy levels up and protects against many age-related illnesses such as Alzheimer disease, Diabetes, heart disease, and even cancer. If you want to boost your health and wellbeing, there are plenty of natural and home remedies to choose from, ranging from avoiding charred meats, junk food, processed and packed food for microwave which should be substituted by homemade food. You should also avoid sugars and sodas. It is helpful to practice meditation for a good health balance and proper nutrition.

1. Limit or stop sugary drinks

Sugary drinks like sodas, fruit juices, and sweetened teas are the primary source of added sugar in the American diet.

Unfortunately, findings from several studies point to sugar-sweetened beverages increasing risk of Heart Disease, Type 2 diabetes, Insulin resistance, Metabolic Syndrome, and

Fatty Liver Disease among other conditions and hormonal disorders.

Sugar-sweetened beverages are also uniquely harmful for children, as they can contribute not only to obesity in children but also to conditions that usually do not develop until adulthood, like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and Metabolic Syndrome.

Healthier alternatives include:

water

unsweetened-natural teas

sparkling water

coffee

Natural juice made with natural fruit without sugar (NOT FROM CONCENTRATE)

2. Avoid ultra-processed foods

Ultra-processed foods (UPFs) are foods containing ingredients that are significantly modified from their natural form. They often contain additives like added sugar, highly refined oil, salt, preservatives, artificial sweeteners, colors, and flavors as well.

Our digestive system and the endocrine-metabolic system are not genetically designed to tolerate this large amount of sugar and ultra processed food and end up getting sick.

Examples include:

Snack cakes

Fast food

Frozen meals/Microwave food.

Packaged cookies

All kind of chips

UPFs are highly palatable, meaning they are easily overeaten, and activate rewarding pathway regions in the brain, which can lead to addiction to excess calorie consumption and weight gain. Studies show that diets high in ultra-processed food can contribute to obesity, Type 2 Diabetes, Heart Disease, Insulin resistance and Metabolic Syndrome, Fatty Liver Disease among other conditions.

3. Feed your Gut Bacteria (Microbiome).

The bacteria in your gut, collectively called the gut microbiota, are incredibly important for overall health.

A disruption in gut bacteria is linked to some chronic diseases, including obesity, chronic depression, and a myriad of digestive problems such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Irritable Bowel Syndrome as well as endocrine, metabolic, and neurologic system disorders.

Good ways to improve gut health include eating fermented foods like yogurt, Kimchi, and sauerkraut along with eating plenty of fiber. Notably, fiber serves as a prebiotic, or a food source for your gut bacteria. Examples of high fiber food: Green leafy vegetables, Cabbage, Lettuce, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Green beans among other vegetables.
